What is LATINAA?

LATINAA

/ləˈtiːnə/, spelled in all caps with a double A, pronounced just like latina

is an initiative established in 2022 by postgraduate students of the Architectural Association.

It is a platform that seeks to build a network of latin-american and caribbean students, tutors, and alumni from the Architectural Association. It is a forum for actions, events, conversations, and debates about and around Latin America and the Caribbean.

Who is LATINAA?

We founded LATINAA as students of the MA in History and Critical Thinking in 2022.

Among our fellow latin american and caribbean students and tutors, we continue to explore our interests and stay connected to the discourses taking place at the AA.

Magdalena Picazzo Sánchez

Magdalena is an architect based in México City and AA HCT alumn. She works as an independent editor and collaborates with ArchDaily, as well as being an architectural communications specialist. Her interests revolve around the discourses and fictions within architectural narratives, focused on their media outputs.

Eleonora Aronis

Eleonora is a Brazilian multidisciplinary professional working across architecture, visual arts and research. She graduated in Architecture, Urbanism and Visual Arts (minor) at the University of São Paulo (FAUUSP), holds an MA in HCT from the AA and is currently a PhD candidate in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her research engages with critical cartography and walking as a method, exploring perceptions of space that resist and reimagine dominant cartesian frameworks; moving between image-making and spatial narratives.

Richard Gerald-Rondón

Richard is an architect and spatial researcher from Bogotá. His work explores the political and media dimensions of contemporary space, engaging tools like forensics and OSINT to question how environments are seen, built and contested. He studied at the AA School in London in the HCT program and co-founded LATINAA as a platform advocating for spatial justice, visibility and intellectual exchange across geographies and disciplines.

LATINAA is a platform that opens critical dialogues around Latin America and the Caribbean, advocating for spatial justice, visibility, and intellectual exchange across geographies and disciplines; it brings together students, tutors and alumni from the AA school.
